The Spartans will kick-off their SWPL 2 campaign on the road against Stirling University as Jack Beesley looks to return his charges to the top flight at the first time of asking.
It’s the first time the two teams will have met since they last locked horns in 2019, with the Students coming into the competition on the back of promotion from the Championship.
The team return home to the Vanloq Community Stadium where they will face familiar faces in the shape of Dundee United who will undoubtedly be fellow challengers at the top of the pile come the end of what promises to be a hugely competitive season.
It’ll be one of ‘firsts’ too, with the opening month concluding with a trip over the Queensferry Crossing to Methil for the inaugural clash against newly promoted East Fife.
St Johnstone and Gartcairn are the two other SWPL 2 teams that Spartans have yet to meet and will do so on back-to-back away days on 28/09 and 12/10 respectively.
The initial series of home and away fixtures ends at home against East Fife before the league splits into a top 6 and bottom 4 scenario as the business end of the season hots up.
Head Coach Jack Beesley said, “We are hugely excited at kicking off what promises to be an extremely competitive SWPL2 season. There will be many teams, ourselves included, who will be targeting promotion, meaning every week will carry importance and carry an expectation to win football matches.”
“Despite some key players from last season moving on, we have retained a very strong core and have had what we feel has been a very strong recruitment window (new signings to be announced in due course), so are relishing the massive challenge this season will bring.”
“We look forward to pre-season starting, bedding in our squad and ideas, and attacking the season when it arrives.”
