The Spartans Football Club is delighted to confirm that defender Sarah Clelland has signed a one‑year contract extension, keeping the 27‑year‑old full‑back at the Vanloq Community Stadium through the 2025–26 SWPL 2 campaign.
Since joining Spartans in July 2016 from Glasgow City, Clelland has become a staple full-back, embodying the club’s collaborative spirit and community ethos. The one-year extension not only reflects her quality as a player, but also the club’s long-standing ambition to build from within.
Head Coach Jack Beesley hailed the renewal as a major boost for the side’s defensive continuity:
“Retaining Sarah for such an important season is a huge boost for the club. Her experience, positivity and selflessness sets such a good example for everyone else within the club, and her honesty and willingness to voice opinions in a constructive manner makes her a great leader within the group.”
“On the pitch last season she again showed her qualities, both defensively and offensively, and that balance of doing both parts of the game will be key for the way we want to play. I very much look forward to working with her again this season.”
Sarah Clelland also commented:
“I am excited to resign for my 10th season with this special club. Last season ended in a way we wouldn’t have wanted or hoped for but I knew I wanted to stay and make things right.”
“This club means a lot to me, and is where I have spent the majority of my footballing career. We have faced challenges over that time, and have made incredible memories as well.”
“This season I am ready for a campaign which is going to be different from any that we have competed in before. But I am looking forward to it, and am ready to give everything to get Spartans back to where they belong.”
