Player News: Robyn, Izzy and Natalie return for 2026-27 campaign

26 June 2026

Jack Beesley’s squad continues to take shape for the SPWPL 1 season ahead and this is strengthened with the re-signing of a trio of fans favourites.

Robyn McCafferty:

We start with the wonderful news that Robyn McCafferty returns to the heart of the Spartans defence for the 2026-27 campaign.

Role model Robyn broke through the 200 appearance barrier last season and we look forward to more of the same this year.

On news of Robyn putting pen to paper once again, Head Coach Jack Beesley said:

“What else is there to say about Robyn? Amazing to think that at only 22, Robyn has played over 200 games for Spartans. She’s an incredible leader for this group of players and staff, and in my opinion, the best part-time centre back in the country.

“She is so consistent that sometimes her quality gets overlooked out with the club, so it was great to see her recognised in the SWPL team of the season. We look forward to hopefully many more appearances in white and red!”

An excited Robyn noted; “I’m delighted to be signing on again for next season, anyone that knows me knows how much this club means to me and how much I love the club. After the success of last season and getting the club back to where it belongs, it was a no brainer. I’m looking forward to getting back in  with the squad and preparing for what will be an extremely challenging yet exciting season.”

Izzy Young

Izzy was a firm fans favourite during her loan spell last year and having committed to being a Spartan this year, we can’t wait to see Izzy back in action!

Head Coach Jack Beesley said;

“Izzy had an outstanding breakthrough season in senior football, and we are delighted that she turned down a professional deal at Hearts to sign for Spartans, alongside her academic studies. Her blistering pace and pressing abilities will be invaluable for us this season, and we’re excited to see how her development continues against more experienced and streetwise defenders. Congratulations also to her for her SWPL team of the season inclusion.”

On news of her signing up for Spartans, Izzy noted; “I’m so pleased to be signing for Spartans after such an enjoyable and successful season with a great group of girls. To be a part of such cohesive and motivated team and then winning the league to get promoted has been such a privilege and I’m so excited for the season ahead.”

Natalie Bandura

Some 30 appearances and a good eye for goals last season, it’s a fantastic addition once again for Jack and the team to have Natalie on board.

Head Coach Jack Beesley said, “Like Izzy, Nat also had a brilliant debut season, finishing as second top goalscorer in SPWPL2, and we’re delighted she’s back for a second loan spell. She showed real resilience throughout last season to adapt to opponents’ physicality, to keep working hard to improve, and to take on board advice given to her.

“SPWPL1 represents a huge step-up in difficulty for a striker, but we’re confident Nat will overcome that challenge and have another strong season for Spartans.”

On extending her stay at Spartans Natalie said; “I’m happy to be staying on at Spartans for another season. I really enjoyed my football here last year and felt it was the right place to keep playing and developing. Looking forward to getting back with the team, putting in the work, and seeing what we can achieve this season.”
