She’s a Keeper! Not one, but two of our shot stoppers who accumulated no fewer than 18 clean sheets last season, have put glove to paper for the 2026-27 campaign. We’re delighted to announce that Alicia and Liamara are Spartans for SPWPL 1.
Alicia Yates
Speaking of Alicia’s decision to remain between the Spartans sticks, Jack Beesley said, “Although a team effort, Alicia’s clean sheet record last season was remarkable. She’s developing into a top goalkeeper and we are delighted she’s chosen to continue her development at Spartans, despite a full-time offer elsewhere.
Keeping another of our players who have SPWPL1 experience is so important for us.”
Looking to add to her 117 senior appearance, Alicia added, “I’m excited to be signing again for the club, the club has helped me so much over the years and am excited to see it back in SWPL 1, especially with how it ended last season.
The club is the perfect place for me to continue developing and I can’t wait for it to begin again and to see how we can compete. I am excited to get started!!”

Liamara Hensel-Burg
Spartans Head Coach noted on Liamara returning for duty in 2026-27 saying; “Liamara performed really well whenever called upon last season, and it’s important for us to have two goalkeepers who we trust to play in any game.
She’s still young and is someone we feel has a high ceiling, so we’re really happy she has decided to stay at Spartans.”
After an enjoyable first year in North Edinburgh, Liamara added, “I’m really excited to sign for another year with Spartans. What we accomplished last season with such an incredible team was amazing, and I’m sure we will continue developing to achieve more this year!”
