Spartans Goal Keeper Emma Thomson Signs for Hearts Women

12 July 2025

The Spartans FC have confirmed the transfer of Emma Thomson to Heart of Midlothian Women, joining with immediate effect.

The 17-year-old goalie began her career at Hamilton Academicals Girls Academy where she was the youngest player since the formation of the new SWPL to win the player of the month prize – an accolade that is rare for goalkeepers to win!

Thomson received further recognition after signing for the Spartans winning two Player of the Match awards with 13 starts and 3 clean sheets. Emma also played for Scotland’s U17 squad.

The Hamilton native said on her new chapter:

“My move to Hearts is a huge step in my career and is a dream come true. It is an opportunity I will grab with both hands, and I am excited to get started and settle into the squad.”

When asked about her experience as a Spartan Emma stated she ‘couldn’t have asked for a better group of players’ to go through what was a difficult season:

“Through both the highs and the lows, the togetherness in the squad was never in doubt and I am sure it won’t be long until Spartans see a return to the topflight where they belong.”

“Jack and the coaching staff played a key role in my development throughout the year which I am extremely grateful.”

Assistant Head Coach Chris Sim applauded Emma’s ‘dedication and commitment to her own development’ and commented:

“Her attitude, both on and off the pitch, has been nothing short of outstanding. For someone so young, she shows remarkable maturity way beyond her years.”

From everyone at Spartans, good luck Emma!
