Paul Weir joins Spartans Coaching Staff

Spartans FC are delighted to announce that Paul Weir has joined the club to take up the role of Assistant Coach.

Paul joins the club bringing on board a wealth of experience to the side. On joining the team, Paul spoke of his eagerness to get going:

“I’m delighted to be joining an established SWPL club with a great reputation and I am really excited to work with Debbi and the rest of the team and help to push on in the new season with a great group of players. I’m thankful for the opportunity and I am looking forward to getting started.”

Further to Paul’s appointment, SWPL Development Coach, Donald Park will move into a wider coaching role with the team and Liam Thomson will take up a coaching role alongside his work as Performance Analyst.

On both Paul’s addition and the staffing re-structure, Head Coach Debbi McCulloch spoke on her confidence the staff and playing group could push to a new level:

“When Scott decided to step down as our Assistant Coach, one of my main priorities over the break, was to ensure we made our coaching staff structure stronger. Paul coming onboard achieves this priority, along with Donald Park moving into a role which will see Parky work with the full squad on a more regular basis. Liam Thomson, our analyst for the past three seasons, will take on the role of delivering and leading our afternoon sessions with Katie Reilly, ex-Spartans player and captain, remaining in the role of Assistant Coach.”

“All four coaches are highly experienced and bring something different to our staff team which will 100% benefit every player in our squad. It’s great to have a mixture of Parky’s wisdom, Katie’s playing experience, Liam’s tactical and performance input along with Paul bringing a new voice and presence to the team. I couldn’t be happier about how things have worked out and look forward to working closely with everyone throughout the season as we look to take the team to a new level.”
